Class Updates
Message from Ms. Prater
Hi everyone! I’m excited about our class this semester and can’t wait to get to know you. We have a lot to cover, and how much you gain will depend on the effort you put in. I’ll provide either grades or feedback, depending on what works best for your learning style and motivation. Outside of our two main projects, assignments will be supplemental, helping you prepare for upcoming lessons. To hit the ground running, there are a few things to complete before our first day.
To Be Ready for Our First Day
-
Install VS Code
An email went out to parent's through the HHE website with installation instructions. I’m happy to resend it if it got misplaced, and please do not hesitate to contact me for assistance. Try to complete this step ahead of time so you’re fully ready for our first class.
Helpful Hint: Setting aside 10–15 minutes this week to get VS Code installed will save you stress later and ensure everything runs smoothly on day one.
-
Bring Your Essentials
You will need your laptop, charger, USB drive, and any required passwords each time we meet.
Helpful Hint: Having a wireless mouse is encouraged, but not required. A notebook would also be helpful for sketching any layout ideas that spontaneously come to mind.
-
Get to Know Your Instructor
You can get to know a little about me by viewing my About Me page below — it’s also an example of one of the projects you’ll create this semester.
-
Join Our Class on CodeHS
Once you've created your account, be sure to make a note of your username and password. If you are asked for a class code, it is 29B0D. CodeHS will be one of the many tools we use this semester.
-
Preview the First Topics
Watch videos 1–6 in the Web Design playlist below. Getting familiar with these ideas ahead of time will give you a strong start for our first two classes, which can feel overwhelming at first. The first 6 videos are about 45 minutes total, but don’t worry — you don’t need to memorize anything. Just watch, listen, and come ready with an idea of what we’ll be exploring.
